Ever noticed the terms “Perfume,” “Eau de Parfum (EDP),” and “Eau de Toilette (EDT)” on fragrance bottles and wondered what they mean? These labels tell you about the concentration of fragrance oils, which affects how strong the scent is and how long it lasts.

  • Perfume (Parfum): The most concentrated, containing 20–30% fragrance oils. It’s rich, luxurious, and long-lasting—up to 12 hours or more. Ideal for special occasions or when you want your scent to truly linger.

  • Eau de Parfum (EDP): Slightly lighter, with 15–20% concentration. EDPs offer great staying power (6–8 hours) and are perfect for daily wear or evening events.

  • Eau de Toilette (EDT): Contains 5–15% fragrance oils. EDTs are light, fresh, and usually last 3–5 hours. Great for daytime, office wear, or when you want something subtle.

There’s also Eau de Cologne (EDC), with even lower concentration (2–5%)—more like a refreshing splash than a full fragrance experience.

When shopping, consider your needs: do you want a fragrance that lasts all day, or something quick and easy for a morning refresh? Knowing these differences helps you make the right pick—and get the best value for your scent investment.
